Emirates Expands Vegan Meals for Global Travelers in 2027
Starting in 2027, Emirates will roll out one of the most ambitious vegan dining programs in aviation, offering passengers a choice of 488 plant-based recipes across 140 destinations. This expansion builds on years of menu development and reflects the airline’s recognition of a growing demand for sustainable, conscious dining options.
From Mezze to Noodle Bowls
The menus are designed to highlight the natural flavors of whole foods rather than mimic meat. Passengers can expect dishes inspired by global traditions:
Mediterranean mezze with hummus, baba ghanoush, and tabbouleh.
Levantine grain salads featuring bulgur, lentils, and fresh herbs.
African stews rich with chickpeas, okra, and spiced tomato bases.
Asian noodle bowls layered with tofu, mushrooms, and seasonal greens.
Each recipe is crafted to balance nutrition with flavor, offering travelers meals that are both satisfying and culturally authentic.
Regional Highlights
Emirates has emphasized destinations across Africa and the Middle East; Egypt, Tunisia, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, and Tanzania, where plant-based traditions are deeply rooted. Dishes like Egyptian koshari or Tunisian lablabi will be reimagined for in-flight dining, connecting passengers to regional heritage while promoting sustainability.
Health and Sustainability
The airline’s culinary team, led by Vice President of Food & Beverage Design Doxis Bekris, has stressed that the focus is on minimally processed foods. By prioritizing legumes, grains, nuts, and vegetables over lab-based substitutes, Emirates is positioning itself as a pioneer in transparent, health-forward hospitality.
The Passenger Experience
Beyond the food itself, Emirates is investing in presentation and service. Meals will be plated with attention to detail, echoing fine dining standards even at 35,000 feet. Vegan options will be clearly marked on menus, ensuring accessibility for passengers who want to make conscious choices without compromise.
